Sequoia Golf, LLC, was founded in 2003 by Joseph Guerra. Until 2007, Sequoia operated solely in the state of Georgia, under the Canongate Golf brand. This branding has been a name synonymous with successful private club ownership and operation since 1965. In 2007, Sequoia branched into Texas with the acquisition of five clubs in The Woodlands. Two of the five became Canongate Clubs and the other three Clubs remained unchanged as The Woodlands Country Club properties. In late 2009, Canongate found itself in another expansion, growing into the state of Colorado with the purchase of Blackstone and Black Bear Golf Clubs. Both of these clubs were immediately converted to Canongate Clubs.
Also in 2009, Sequoia began to diversify by way of the creation of
Sequoia Greenscapes, a course design, renovation and maintenance company. In addition to its ownership of golf properties and this newly formed golf construction venture, Sequoia assumed management of thirteen properties located throughout the Eastern United States. The managed properties ranged from mid-range public to high-end private clubs. By leveraging many in-house talent teams and agencies, Sequoia continues to successfully manage these initial contracts, as well as an additional ten clubs that were added in 2010.
To date Sequoia Golf owns and operates 27 golf clubs, and leases or manages 25 golf courses, as well as running a successful Course Design and Renovation business. With a current listing of courses located all over the United States, Sequoia expects continued growth of both its ownership and management portfolios in the coming years.
