Canongate I Golf Club
Canongate I Golf Club, located in Sharpsburg, Georgia, was the first of the Canongate golf courses. It originally opened in 1965 with 18 holes designed by world-renowned architects Dick Wilson and Joe Lee. An additional 18 holes were added in 1999, creating the 36-hole facility that members know and love today. Architects Rocky Roquemore and Jeff Burton were responsible for the addition. Besides being a flagship Canongate golf course, the Club offers its members swimming, tennis and dining amenities, as well. This unique, 36-hole Club features four distinct nines that integrate seamlessly into the surrounding natural area, making it a favorite among all of our members.

Scott L. Amoson, 4/2/2013 10:30:58 AM EST I can't really know for sure, but ever since Summergrove was dropped from the Canongate family, slow play at Canongate I has been a big problem. On the weekend during peak golfing, there needs to be a ranger on the course to make sure things are moving along. The last two rounds I've played (one Saturday, one Sunday) have taken almost 5 hours and there were multiple times in the round where there was a backup of three groups on one tee. As the weather improves, this will need to be addressed. Other than that, the conditions on this course have been great! The greens are ridiculously fast and challenging. The greenskeepers must be getting ready for Augusta.
Carla Queen, 3/28/2013 4:48:07 PM EST I enjoyed all aspects of the course and staff. The greens are very good, always smooth and somewhat quick. I am concerned with the number of golfers whom hit balls and putt in jeans and clothing that does not meet the criteria of the club.
Christopher Jones, 1/26/2013 5:23:15 PM EST I haven't played the Roquemore course yet, but I can say that the Lee/Wilson course was in great condition. I like that the Lee course doesn't have as many water hazards as other Canongate courses, yet is just as challenging. It makes for a more enjoyable round, in my opinion.
Stephen Haupt, 12/16/2012 10:46:20 PM EST Played all 36 about 10 days ago....course was dormant but other than that was in great shape. Greens were smooth except for an old hole that was poorly replaced that kept me from a birdie on Roc #11. If you have never played these courses do yourself a favor and play them. Lee greens are smaller but layout is a little easier in my opinion.
Gary N. Harris, 6/24/2012 5:12:34 PM EST This is an update from an earlier rating (2 stars) - the course conditions are tremendous (as they almost always are) with wonderful bentgrass greens. The pace of play is much better now with almost no 5-somes seen recently so it is back to a 5 star in my book!
Danny Findley, 6/4/2012 11:47:36 AM EST Very nice course enjoy playing and inviting guest to play
Scott L. Amoson, 5/24/2012 10:09:15 AM EST I have recently played both the Roquemore and Lee courses and I have to say these courses are in GREAT shape! From tee to green, I am very impressed with the quality golf course the maintenance staff has given us members. I even heard a compliment from one of the guys at work who visited the course recently as a guest. Kudos guys. Keep up the GREAT work!
O.D. Don Baggett, 5/22/2012 12:47:29 PM EST I have been a member for 39 years. The course is in the best condition I have seen. Johnny and his maintenance staff has done a great job, working hard to make things happen. As members, we have to continue to do our part. Pickup any trash, repair divets with sand, repair ball marks and etc. Our professionals do not allow 5-somes, call into the pro shop if you see this happening.

Gary N. Harris, 1/31/2012 6:26:29 PM EST The course itself was in great condition considering the time of year. Unfortunately, we were stuck behind a men's group that was playing in 5-somes. The pace of play was horrible - watch out for the 5-somes here. (It's become an allowed practice here).
Trudy Wray, 9/12/2011 8:28:31 PM EST I have been a member of this course for over 20 years and it has NEVER been in such good condition. The course improvements are fantastic and it is a real pleasure to play. The restaurant has some great new menu items and the entire club staff is outstanding.
SA, 8/5/2011 3:05:39 PM EST I am very proud to have Canongate I as my home club. Despite the summer heat and low rainfall amounts, this course is in excellent condition. Kudos to the ground crew maintenance, staff and golf pros here!
RG Rayfield, 8/2/2011 4:57:37 PM EST Been a member for 30 years and overall course in the best condition EVER despite the heat and amount of play.
RG Rayfield, 8/2/2011 4:53:43 PM EST Been a member for 30 years and overall course in the best condition EVER despite the heat and amount of play.
white oak golfer, 7/25/2011 9:09:02 PM EST Played Roquemore course on July 24. Course is in great shape. Greens were kind of slow but in good condition. Grew up playing Canongate and it is always nice to play again.
Steven Loiselle, 7/18/2011 3:07:45 AM EST Great greens and both courses are fun to play. I like Roquemore the best. I like long par 3 holes.
ken carroll, 7/15/2011 4:27:44 PM EST best greens anywhere. best gounds keeper and staff anywhere. never get tired of playing here

Anonymous, 5/24/2011 10:09:15 PM EST Canongate is in the best shape it's members have ever seen. Love the new traps and the greens are in great shape. Thanks to Johnny Merrick and his crew for all the hard work. It shows!!
GT, 5/24/2011 5:07:22 PM EST Canongate I is very close to being in top-flight shape. The sand traps are wonderful, and the greens are getting firm and fast - but also very fair. We just need to get those who play at Canongate I to help keep it in great shape -- meaning to repair ball marks, rake sand traps, etc.
cotton, 5/24/2011 3:23:33 PM EST the course is in the best shape ever...............
